Big Bash steps in to raise money for Thomas Blackhall Tomb refurbishment
Published: September, 2023
Paul and Milly Duncan created “The Big Bash” – a village fun and games weekend – a number of years ago now to raise money for UCare, the urology cancer research and education organisation. In a change of direction, this year’s event involving some average cricket, sweaty football, refreshing water fights and a well-supported auction meant that we were able to raise £5,765 towards the work on the orange tape-covered Blackhall tomb in the churchyard (a local farmer who was 32 and a half stone when he died in 1779).
Paul and Milly said: “Massive thanks to Tim Martin for hosting the children’s activities in the barn, to the Pascoes, Drurys and Rowses for donating to the auction so generously and Adam Clay for presenting the lots, to the cricket club for allowing us to use their facilities, for Lynda Raynor and Jill Bain for the cakemaking prowess, Curtis, Emma and Imlak for bringing the sport (including an excellent kids coaching session) and to Gary and Sam for having us all throughout the day.
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did and thank you all for giving so generously – it’s events like these that makes Warborough and Shillingford such a special place to live.”
