Friends of St Laurence take to the roads again

Published: September, 2022

Five intrepid riders and various other solo riders and striders today joined this year’s rather special Ride + Stride for Churches. With thoughts of our dearly departed Queen, the new King Charles and the Royal Family in our minds, we set off from St Laurence for Dorchester at 10am on the dot this morning, Saturday, 16th September.

Our route took us to the Abbey in Dorchester and churches in Clifton Hampden, Long Wittenham, Little Wittenham, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Wallingford, Crowmarsh and Benson – 12 individual, unique and beautiful churches in all. Many were serving drinks with some even laying on tea, coffee and home made cakes! We cycled 17.5 miles at an easy, “chat-level” pace offering lots of opportunity to soak up the special character of the countryside in which we are truly blessed to live.

So far we have raised some £400 for OHCT of which a half will come back to St Laurence Church towards our church building conservation fund. Thank you to all our sponsors.
